The Galvany’s Clot, micro-wetland full of fauna.

In spite of the human pressure that this wetland gets, the step that its responsible people make (Elche’s town hall) and the clear potential of the own space, add an amazing positive effect to the places of interest in this wetland space which belongs to Alicante’s coast.

The Galvany’s Clot together with the Senieta’s Fondet, which is another of the wetlands placed in an area known as Los Balsares, shape an endorheic system, very helped by the sea intrusion which gives them some particular biological characteristics. The vegetation has typical species of coastal systems, combined with species from agricultural use. That fact develops a mixed plant landscape with an exceptional beauty.

These wetland’s dimensions are about three hundred and fifty hectares but it doesn’t mean that it has less possibilities of having an important quantity of species. Among these ones and in the amphibious group, we find the sapo corredor and, more recently, we are pleased to have the turtle (Mauremys leprosa) that consolidates its reproduction in the Galvany’s Clot, although it is exposed to a rivalry with other alien terrapin species such as the Trachemys s.p., situation which worryingly affects to the aquatic species.

The bird species that use this micro-wetland have a security provided by a space with limited dimensions and a constant presence of its protectors. This peculiarity moves further away the negative external mismanagement for the resident species of the wetland. At the same time, this place has a cynegetic closing which, in a way, guaranties it the almost constant presence of species all year round. This fact, together with the register facility, gives it a strategic point as for the possibilities of species observation in the wetlands’ complex placed in the south of Alicante.
